My dear friend just had her second baby. We met because she was my midwife with Maggie. Back then, she didn't have children and it has been such a blessing to be a part of her transition to motherhood. Beautiful, even. She is a natural at it.
I love knitting and sewing for people around birth's. The journey and the new beginning. It takes thought and careful planning and I often feel like each step of the way, each color picked, every stitch made, is a blessing or hope for that new little one and their mama. That might be one of my favorite things about knitting/sewing. The love you can put into objects. Love made tangible.
I couldn't resist making something for the big sister. A smock for her to paint in.
Patterns and such for those interested:
- The sweater is Little Coffee Bean by Elizabeth Smith
- The ridiculously small booties are from Knitting for Baby knit on FIVE needles and I loved every second of it. I think I have made 6 pairs of these over the last four years....
- The smock is from Oliver and S: little things to sew. My first sewing project from the book and learned something new, as always with her patterns!
